Murtas - the local village, about 5 minutes away by car, can provide the majority of your everyday needs. Click on the image opposite to find out what's available in Murtas...
Within 15-20 minutes
Cadiar - head back up towards "Cuatro Vientos Bodega" and then take a right at the end of that road will get you to Cadiar in about 15-20 minutes. Cadiar is the BEST place for your major shopping, with 3 supermarkets (similar to local SPAR operations in UK, and generally well stocked). Pretty much anything you need is available here, from a choice of internet cafes to the local wine co-operative's bodega in the Calle Principal....this is well worth a visit. The guy running it comes across as miserable as sin, and speaks no English at all, but the wines can be fabulous - straight from the barrel at around 90p - 1.20 a litre. There is a medical centre in Cadiar too, just along past the municipal swimming pool - not open on Friday afternoons though, as we found out!
Within 25 minutes...
Albunol - about 20 mins away is a local hub, still really only a village by our standards, but with a lovely mix of rural Spain and modern convenience. The intimate, winding alleyways that thread through the village are a joy to wander and discover..
For wonderful local produce, including Fresh Fish, Fresh Locally Reared Meats, Locally Produced Fruit and Veg, you'll be impressed with the Albunol Indoor Marketplace - see pics below...
Local Produce from the Fruit Basket of Europe..but I'm sure she won't mind me calling her that...
Locally Caught Fish - fresh every day
Excellent locally reared meats...load up the Barbie!!
Cafe FEFI
A visit to Albunol won't be complete without dropping in to visit Fefi in her cafe just outside the market place. It goes without saying that her "Cafe con Leche" is heavenly...but the "pasteles" (cakes) are what its all about here...stop off for half an hour, take the weight off your feet and just enjoy....
