Just 5 minutes away from Ranchito by car, or if you're feeling hearty, a 20 minute walk, is the the locally celebrated Cuatro Vientos Restaurant. Its name means "Four Winds", and perched on the ridge of the foothills looking down to the Costa Almeria on one side, and back up to the Sierra Nevada on the other, Cuatro Vientos is a place where you'll meet anyone and everyone....when we first moved out here, the first people we bumped into, having breakfast there one morning were a couple who lived about 5 miles away from us in England!!
The restaurant is not only famous for its wonderful grilled meats, but it adjoins a working winery, which you are most welcome to tour. The wine made here is on a par with anything in the world, and well worth looking out for.
The ambience is comfortingly rural, and as with all of this region, totally informal, the food and wines excellent, and you can also browse and buy from the wide selection of "La Murtena" label locally produced specialities - from chocolate to fig cake...honey with walnuts being a family favourite for us!!
